How to Get Free Cases in CS2

Play the Game

Okay, I know. I head that “Duh!” from here. But while it may seem obvious, it’s still worth mentioning that the easiest way to get free cases is by playing the game, especially since the drop system has changed in CS2 compared to CS:GO.

Back in the CS:GO days, you could get free cases as random drops after matches. But in CS2, Valve replaced random drops with Weekly Care Packages. These are only available for players who have the paid Prime account in CS2, so it could be argued that they’re not entirely free, but either way, you don’t have to pay extra for them. Level up your private rank at least once in a given week, and you’ll get to choose two out of four random items. One of the items is always a case, and the other three include skins and sprays.

Visit the Steam Community Market

The most popular place for buying and selling CS2 cases is the Steam Community Market. Just search for CS2 cases, take your pick, and make your purchase. Remember that you can filter the results by game to make the search easier.

Note that you’ll need to buy a corresponding key to open your case. You can get the key in the Market or buy it via an in-game feature—when you go to open the case in your in-game inventory, you’ll get the option to automatically purchase the correct key.

Browse Third-Party Sites

A quick Google search will point you towards several third-party websites that enable users to trade official CS2 cases. They offer quite similar services overall, though they may differ in functionality. For instance, on some sites, you need to pay directly with money, while on others you may be able to trade in your CS2 items in exchange for a case or for virtual credit.

The biggest advantage of using third-party sites concerns users looking to sell cases or items. You may be able to sell your skins and cases for cash there, while the Community Marketplace only lets you exchange in-game items for credit to spend on Steam.

Before spending any money, check that the website is legit. Try to find user reviews online to make 100% sure it’s not a scam of some kind, though keep in mind that users sometimes downvote websites just because they didn’t get what they wanted, rather than due to being genuinely scammed. And remember you’ll still need to get keys for cases bought on third-party sites.
